Papers and photograph pertaining to Charles H. Marsh, a Hixton, Wisconsin resident who served as a private in Company E, 7th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Manuscript materials consist of a transcript of a poem Charles composed to his wife, Mary Abigail, and a photocopy of the pension request form Mary submitted after his death. The collection also contains a copy print photograph of a tin type, depicting Charles seated in uniform and wearing an Iron Brigade Hardee hat. A copy print negative of the image is also included. Born in Massachusetts, Charles moved to Hixton sometime before enlisting in 1864. Later that same year he was killed in action during the Battle of the Wilderness (Virginia).
